It's early Sunday morning on the other side of the world...and New Zealand, which is where the end of world Earthquakes were supposed to start at 6pm their time, according to Harold Camping, seems to be still kicking, as far as I can tell.
I have several issues with Camping's worldwide end of the world campaign. First, it's going against God by playing God. Camping's prediction is like him declaring he knows what God knows, and only God knows what God knows...as evidenced by my life. The Bible clearly states that only God knows when the day will come, not even the angels know.
My second issue is that it has created a worldwide excuse for non-believers to point and laugh at Christians, once again. Instead of showing God's goodness and sovereignty. One person can give the entire Christian religion a bad name. We, as Christians shouldn't be proclaiming craziness in the streets, screaming about the end times and condemning people to hell. We should be showing love and kindness to those who need it..and those who don't. We should be setting an example like the one Jesus set before us, so that people won't come to the Lord in fear, but rather in love. And so non-Christians won't think we're all wackjobs.
My third issue..which coincides nicely with my second issue, is that it has created this nationwide excuse to party like it's the end of the world. So, Harold Camping, with his hundred million dollar campaign, just propelled our nation further into sin. Way to go.

Friday Night
It's Friday night and I'm sitting at home, blogging. That should say something about me...and my friends.
I've noticed I have two types of friends: friends that stay in and friends that go out. I personally really enjoy going out and meeting new people, having a drink, maybe even getting my dance on. However, as proven by the fact that I'm currently sitting at home on a Friday night, friends that go out aren't exactly reliable. Same with boyfriends that go out. My old boss used to say, "Meet a girl in bar, lose a girl in bar." And that is the truth, for boyfriends and friends.
I'm an in between. I enjoy staying in sometimes, and on those occasions my friends that stay in are awesome, but I also enjoy going out. So, do I continue to pursue bad friendships? Story of my life. I pursue people who don't have any desire to pursue me.
On a similar subject, I saw Bridesmaids this week and I LOVED it. It's a hilarious movie! If you enjoy comedy, you should watch this movie. But at one point, the main character, Annie is wallowing in self pity because her bakery failed, so she worked at a crappy job that her mom set her up with--which she got fired from, she's single with no kids and lives with her mom. Whereas her friends (her best friend to be exact)are moving forward in life. And I realized...that's me. I literally cried in the movie theater...in a comedy.
Every one is moving forward, getting married, having babies, growing in their awesome jobs, etc. I'm still here. In this dinky town that I hate and can't for the life of me escape. I have no man. I'm still a chubster...even though I've tried everything in the book to get out of this plateau. And I live with my mom.
It seems that guys in this situation would either...get out...or play video games. But girls need to find a reason for everything. And as a girl, I keep trying to figure out the reason. Why am I still here in this town doing nothing with my life and going nowhere?
It's time to move forward.
I got my passport in the mail today. It's a terrible picture, but it's good for 10 years.

One Out of One Thousand
So, as it turns out, my adventure blog is turning more into a reasons why I'm single blog. Back to my online dating site, after my parents strong suggestion I changed my profile picture to a "normal" photo as my mom likes to say. I've gotten a lot more interest based on this new photo, and a lot more variety, so perhaps it is me! And it was a bad picture. Who knew?
But, alas, as the story of my life continues to unfold as it has for 24 years, the variety is still not quite what I'm looking for. There's one guy that's persistent. He emailed me, so I took a look at his profile...he's 20 years my senior. So I ignored it. He emailed again, after having seen that I checked out his profile. Hmm...most people see that if someone looks at your profile and doesn't say anything means that they didn't like what they saw.
And then, there's one that I did quite enjoy. He's checked me out a few times now, but nothing. So..I have to assume, based on what I just said, that he doesn't like what he's seen. Sad. And being somewhat old fashioned, I refuse to be the one to make the first move. And perhaps, he's not a true believer in the online dating community (like I claim to be) and doesn't have access to all the shnazzy benefits.
Now, for real life. My delightful father instructed me on how to identify a captain, as apparently those are the military men I should be seeking. My dad really wants me to marry for status...for the financial stability. And as a girl, of course, I want a man who can take care of me...but I also want a man to love...regardless of money or status. So...I was checking out all the goods yesterday on base, working my random embarrassing cart, and trying to see identify the insignia. I couldn't quite see it. And spent a good four hours looking at uniforms. But it apparently gave me a better flirt face, and didn't make me so mean.
And my mom...the ever loving, trying to help lady that she is, was speaking with her coworker who is apparently going to the military ball with her husband. So my mom is trying to procure me a ticket to go as well...to meet random single military men. She's a funny one, that mother of mine.
But really...my man hunt is not without reason. Yes..I'm tired of being single, and of course want to be in love (as most women do) and I have always been a bit more boy crazy than usual, but the big reason is that I want my grandmother...my only living grandparent to be present at my wedding...and I'm scared she's not going to make it much longer.

It's Me, Not You...Apparently
My dad was in town last night. It was a much better visit than the Easter 2011 debacle. He was in a great mood and it was really nice to spend some quality time with him. So in our quality time, I was showing my parents all the awesome men that try to pick me up on my internet dating site...What a weird thing to show your parents, I know. But I wanted them to see what I'm dealing with and why I'm still single. They agreed, the men that try to "communicate" with me are no bueno. There was one that my mom decided was "cute" though he was about 35...with 2 kids....so cute is not enough..or too much.
However, then I made the mistake of showing my parents my own profile. And my dad immediately told me to take my profile picture down because it looks "slutty." What!! So I asked for a second opinion, and asked my mom and she said "it's not...slutty...but it's...strange." And then my dad continued to tell me that my picture made me look "easy." Dang. Maybe it is me! Maybe I'm attracting the wrong kind of men! Which then begs the question, how do you attract the right kind of man? Because if I wear a turtle neck and jeans all the time, the men (even the good, sweet, wholesome Christian men) are distracted by boobs and legs and flirty eyes. But if I show of boobs and legs and flirty eyes (flirty eyes not so much...) I attract the wrong kind of guy. So...what to do, what to do.

Hot Men, Hot Coffee
In my jobless state, I have been helping out a friend of my mom's on base working one of those semi embarrassing vendor carts. Today was somewhat eventful...but not really. I finished the book I was reading, Juliet, Naked. It was funny at times and thought provoking, but not intense or really the kind of book that magically sucks you in and you can't put it down. Not that I'm saying it was a dull read or anything, I really enjoyed it.
So, I'm sitting at this booth, next to the GNC store, so of course, there's a shirtless hot man with a perfect body staring at me. (He was an ad for muscle vitamins or something). And I'm surrounded by a delicious sea of uniformed men. I don't know what it is about a man in uniform, but it's...very nice. I think it's more the idea of what's underneath for me. I can only hope...for securities sake...that the bodies under those uniforms match the poster that stared at me all day...(ok, the poster that I stared at all day). I wore my new blue dress that hugs my curves (which I unfortunately have an abundance of)..but my outfit was a lot more mature and covered than the girls working the other booths...goodness. The things people...girls...wear!! So needless to say, no hot military men hit on me :( which made me quite sad. Luckily I have several more chances to work on my flirtation abilities and my "come hither" look. In college I had that look down and could stop a pair of baby blues where they stood...Not any more.
But I did acquire a phone number from a male caller. He was working one of the other booths and came over to talk to me (while his coworker was away, mind you. His very scantily dressed coworker who kept giving me the stink eye even though she was the one in stockings...no dress or long shirt to cover..just straight up stockings...as in she forgot to wear pants.) He chatted for a minute or two about what kind of car I drive, what I do (in my case, did) outside of the vendor cart, if I had a boyfriend, where I'm from, what I do for fun, etc. Finally he ended with the very chivalrous, "well, after work I'm gonna go have a drink at my place, and you could stop by...You can only have one drink though, I mean, I know you gotta drive." And then as I was leaving, he slipped me his number just like a common prostitute and told me to call him tomorrow. Real charmer, huh? That seems to be how my luck with men goes...in a sea of delicious hot uniformed men, I get the non-uniformed man who wants a drunken booty call.
And then, to end the day, I spilled hot coffee on myself, while eavesdropping on two other (married) men talking about the good old days hitting on hot girls (while conveniently checking me out)... Dang married men.

Not Yet
Lately, I've been torn. I want to go to Korea and have an adventure and experience life in a way that I haven't really done before. The money would be good (which would be a first in my life) and I might actually be able to pay my bills and save a little money for later! And it would be...well, an adventure! I never got to study abroad when I was in college, and I regretted it, and when am I going to have an opportunity like this again?
But, when I went back to my apartment to sign my early contract termination papers and pack up a few things, I realized how heart broken I really was. I had created a life there and friends, and I was finally a grown up...as silly as that sounds. It made me want to stay, to figure it out and not go anywhere.
So, now I'm stuck in this place of deciding. And the decisions, as of now, aren't even in my hands. It all depends on who decides to hire me next. My life always seems to hang in the hands of employers--where I'll go, what I'll do, who I'll meet.
My next big frustration is that I'm alone. So many of my friends are seriously dating, engaged, married and now having babies. I'm not there yet, I'm glad to not have a family just yet, as I still have life to live and things to accomplish before I settle down. But I'm tired of being single and alone. I want someone to hang out with in the day and cuddle with in the night. The thing that I hate most about this stage where everyone around me is no longer with me is the changes. These people used to have the same mindset as me and laugh at the same corny, cheesiness that happens when people fall in love. And now, they are those people. And apparently people in love don't like to be made fun of. I don't want to be one of those people. I don't want to fall in love and not be able to laugh at the silly things...and become so significant other focused that I don't see how silly I/we am/are.
Guess, I just need to get out there and figure it out. Or wait around forever.
